All hail the Queer Queens of Qomedy, breezing into the Windy City Friday, July 3, at the LakeShore Theatre and starring three of the funniest out lesbians in the world of comedy -- Poppy Champlin, Michele Balan and Roxanna Ward.
The Queer Queens of Qomedy is an all-lesbian comedy revue that started in Santa Cruz in 2006 and has been traveling the country ever since, with shows in San Francisco, Las Vegas, Texas, North Carolina and everywhere in between. Poppy Champlin, the producer and host of the Queens, continues to bring new and fresh faces to the show.
Joining her for the Chicago show is Michele Balan, a New York stand-up comedian who was voted one of the "Top 10 Comics" by Backstage Magazine in 2004, was one of the four finalists on NBC's 2006 "Last Comic Standing" and is "The Last Woman Comic ..." Her rapid-fire wit and "I don't give a F---" attitude really pack a punchline. Also headlining is Roxanna Ward, who bills herself as the secret love child of Steve Martin and Bette Midler. She is a writer and director, producer, stand-up comedian and high school teacher who plays the piano and sings song parodies that will bring you to tears -- with laughter.
Former Chi-town resident Poppy Champlin can be seen on HBO's documentary "All Aboard Rosie's Family Vacation" as well as hosting her own popular comedy show "Cocktails and Comedy" at the infamous GirlBar in West Hollywood. Hot of the set of the hilarious LOGO special "One Night Stand-Up," and fresh from her dazzling show at this year's Dinah Shore Weekend, Poppy has earned a reputation of being one of the most quick-witted female comics on either coast. The Chicago Sun Times called her "blisteringly funny" after her performance at the closing ceremonies of the Gay Games, and she will be opening for Cyndi Lauper at this year's PrideFest in Wisconsin.
Whatever your sexual, religious or political persuasion, the Queer Queens of Qomedy are sure to bring you to your feet with laughter.
Make your plans for a night of hilarity in advance because tickets for the Queer Queens of Qomedy are sure to sell out. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. with a special 10 p.m. game show performance that you won't want to miss. Both shows will be filmed live and are expected to air on national television later this year.
